10 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR HOT TUB COSTS LOW & AFFORDABLE in 2022

Not only can hot tubs improve your overall health, they can also reduce stress and anxiety, but hot tubs aren't cheap, and electricity bills can add up quickly when you're using them. This makes the hot tub one of life's luxuries.

Luckily, we have plenty of effective ways to reduce hot tub operating costs, so let's jump right in and learn about some of the best ways.

1. A “SMART” HOT TUB

Many of today's advanced hot tubs have smart features that help reduce costs by optimizing energy efficiency, regulating temperature, and operating in ECO mode. Even better hot tubs integrate with apps that let you control your hot tub, such as heat, power, jet speed, and more, from your smartphone or other compatible devices.

Don't worry if you forget to turn off the spa before heading out, because the smart app can turn off the spa anywhere without increasing your electricity bill.

2. LOWER THE THERMOSTAT

The largest cost of operating a hot tub is heating it, so by lower your tub temperature, you'll consume less electricity and save more on your bills each month. When your hot tub is fully heated, consider lowering the thermostat; keep the heat in an insulated hot tub and you'll save electricity as new water circulates in.

3. RUN ECO MODE

There are many features built into hot tubs, but none are more efficient than "Energy Saver Mode" or "Eco Mode." Different brands have different names for this feature, but all do the same thing, which is to make your hot tub run in a more energy-efficient way, which is the NO.1 way to reduce power consumption.

It goes without saying that when you are not using the hot tub, be sure to turn it off. Many people leave their spa on standby when not in use because they think it saves heat; unfortunately, doing so will drain your hot tub all day long and increase your energy bills, This is not what you need.

4. USE AN INSULATED COVER

One of the best ways to save money is to make sure the heat doesn't escape from your spa. By installing an insulated hot tub cover, the ability to retain most of the heat in the spa means that the water doesn't have to be reheated as often. This can save a lot of money over time. Also, be sure to inspect hot tub covers for cracks or damage that could allow heat to escape; when the covers show any such damage, repair them or replace the covers entirely.

5. A “COOL TUB” IN THE WINTER

In winter, the cost is even higher due to the amount of electricity required to heat water near freezing. If your hot tub is indoors, you can enjoy it year-round; however, if your spa is outdoors, consider using it as a cooling tub. It's a great way to get the most out of your hot tub and keep the cost per use down.

6. SCHEDULE REGULAR MAINTENANCE

Modern hot tubs are outfitted with a ton of technology and safety features, and some even include an onboard computer; that's fine when the hot tub is all right. But when a hot tub breaks and you need an expert to fix it, it's not cheap. You can avoid expensive repairs by scheduling regular maintenance to keep your hot tub running smoothly; maintenance costs are much less than the cost of repairs or a new hot tub, and will definitely save you some money in the long run.

7. USE YOUR SPA DURING OFF-PEAK HOURS

In most cases, energy prices fluctuate throughout the day. The cost of heating and running a hot tub during peak electricity hours will be higher than during off-peak hours. If you plan to heat your hot tub for a good soak, consider doing so at night, when electricity costs are much lower than during peak hours. Certain days of the week can also be cheaper than others, so be sure to find out when it's cheapest to run your spa and try to do so at that time.

8. BLOCK THE PREVAILING WIND

Blowing cold air can quickly lower the temperature of hot tub, which means reheating is required; if you want to keep costs down, please consider to purchase a portable divider or tarp to block prevailing winds; this will slow the cooling of the water, greatly reducing the operating cost of a hot tub, as the water does not need to be heated frequently.

9. USE ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING

Most new hot tubs include a kind of lighting. Most hot tubs today feature energy-efficient LED lighting, which consumes less electricity. But there are still some models on the market that use standard incandescent bulbs, so be sure to check the energy efficiency of your hot tub lighting, and if you find your bulbs aren't energy efficient, then consider switching to LEDs, which can save you money.

10. CLEAN YOUR FILTER OFTEN

Hot tubs get dirty quickly, and keeping costs low is important to keep your spa filters clean; because when a filter gets clogged, the motor works harder to clean the spa, and it consumes more power than filtering heat Much more power is required for dirt and debris in a water tub. Cleaning hot tub filters are relatively straightforward, and if in doubt, contact a professional to do the job.
